The Vibe

Baltar is the principal beach of Portonovo, a long curve of fine white sand and calm water stretching between the marina and Punta Vicaño.

The atmosphere is lively, practical and strongly connected to the town. Families gather close to the main entrances, nautical activity moves across the sheltered bay and the promenade carries walkers between Portonovo and Sanxenxo.

Summer occupation is high, but the beach’s 600-metre length gives it enough scale to remain comfortable beyond the busiest areas.

The Local Anchor

Portonovo’s fishing port and marina are the defining local anchors.

The town retains a working maritime identity through its boats, fish market and seafood restaurants, even as tourism has become central to the wider municipality of Sanxenxo. Baltar lies directly beside this harbour landscape and is often described locally as Portonovo’s beach.

At the eastern end, Punta Vicaño separates Baltar from Silgar and provides a green coastal break between the two urban centres.

The Landscape

Official sources record Baltar as approximately 600 metres long.

The beach has fine white sand and is classified as sheltered, with generally calm water. It occupies an urban setting between Portonovo and Sanxenxo and receives high seasonal use.

The promenade, parking, accommodation and hospitality services lie close behind the shore. Seasonal beach management includes lifeguards, cleaning and visitor facilities, while the neighbouring marina supports sailing and other nautical activity.

Baltar is also included in the maritime Route of the Sea of Arousa and River Ulla.

Its strongest quality is connection: fine sand joining two coastal towns, harbour life at one end and the wooded point of Punta Vicaño at the other.
