About Nosa Señora

The Vibe

Nosa Señora da Lanzada is a small beach beside the historic A Lanzada headland. Its scale is modest, and the presence of stone, chapel and archaeological ground gives the shore a more contemplative character than the long sandy beaches nearby.

The beach is closely enclosed by its setting. Rather than stretching into a broad resort frontage, it occupies a small pocket of sand beneath one of Sanxenxo’s most recognisable coastal landmarks. The sea remains central, but history is never far from view.

The Setting

Nosa Señora — A Small Shore Beneath the Chapel

The Local Anchor

The Romanesque chapel of Nosa Señora da Lanzada dates from the twelfth century and incorporates stone associated with an earlier building. Municipal sources also describe the remains of a tenth-century fortress raised by Bishop Sisnando II as protection against seaborne attack.

A model boat suspended inside the chapel reflects its traditional link with sailors. The place is also associated with the local legend of the “bath of nine waves”, a ritual carried out on the nearby shore. It is best understood as folklore and devotional tradition, not as a claim of medical effect.

The Landscape

The beach sits at Noalla beside the rocky A Lanzada promontory, close to Foxos but clearly separate from it. Sand is confined to a short inlet, with the chapel and archaeological area defining the landward edge and the wider Atlantic coast opening beyond the point.

The headland belongs to a protected coastal landscape of recognised ecological and archaeological value. The shared name is recorded here as the Sanxenxo location beside A Lanzada, distinguishing it from the beach called Nosa Señora on O Faro island in the Cíes archipelago.
