About Los Locos
The Vibe
Los Locos faces the open Cantabrian Sea with a completely different energy from Suances’ more sheltered La Concha. Waves arrive with force, cliffs rise behind the sand, and surfers become part of the view throughout much of the year.
The atmosphere is athletic and exposed. People gather at the lookout to study the sets before descending, while experienced riders use the beach’s powerful conditions. It is not a place to assume easy swimming.
Even for non-surfers, Los Locos is compelling. The sound of the break, the elevated viewpoints, and the feeling of weather moving across the headland make it one of Suances’ most dramatic public spaces.
The Setting
Los Locos — The Restless Side of Suances
The Local Anchor
The local anchor is Suances’ surf culture, supported by schools, clubs, and generations of riders who know the beach’s moods.
The town itself lies close by, with the port and ría on the opposite side of the peninsula. Seafood, fish, and casual bars provide a softer counterpoint to the intensity of the exposed shore.
The Landscape
Los Locos is a sandy cove enclosed by cliffs but fully open to Atlantic swell. Its orientation produces frequent, sometimes heavy wave action, and the usable sand changes notably with the tide.
Clifftop paths and viewpoints provide wide views along the central Cantabrian coast. The beach below appears compact compared with Somo or Merón, yet its vertical setting gives it unusual power.
Los Locos is best understood as Suances’ wild face — close to town, but governed by surf, rock, and the open sea.
