Playa de la Mata

The beach accommodates many different rhythms. Families gather near the principal accesses and services, walkers use the long waterline, and quieter sections appear where the dunes and boardwalks create distance from the busiest promenade areas. Its scale makes it possible to spend a full day without remaining in one crowded cluster.

La Mata is an open Mediterranean beach and can receive significant waves. Flags, lifeguard advice and current conditions should guide every swim, especially when wind strengthens. The broad sand offers room but little natural shade, so early morning and late afternoon are more comfortable for long walks in summer.

Playa de La Mata is Torrevieja's longest beach, extending for more than two kilometres beside the district of Torre La Mata. Fine golden sand, dunes and a lively promenade create a spacious coastal setting with more natural texture than the compact urban beaches nearer Torrevieja's centre.

Torre de La Mata stands near the old village centre and recalls the coast's historic defensive and salt-trading role. A channel beside the settlement carries seawater towards the La Mata lagoon, linking the beach directly with the salt-lagoon system that helped shape Torrevieja's economy.

Behind the southern part of the beach, the Molino del Agua natural area protects dunes and Mediterranean vegetation. Farther inland, the Natural Park of the Lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja supports birdlife and walking routes, but it should be reached through recognised entrances rather than crossed from the shore.

La Mata is a long, open line of fine sand backed by dune ridges, boardwalks and low urban development. The northern end meets the village and its promenade, while other sections feel greener and less enclosed as vegetation separates the beach from roads and buildings.

There are no high cliffs or tight headlands. The drama comes from distance: a horizon that runs for kilometres, changing dune shapes and the repeated rhythm of waves along the shore. La Mata combines the facilities of a popular town beach with the visual breathing space of a natural coastal corridor, making it distinct from Torrevieja's shorter central beaches.
