About Playa de Poniente
The Vibe
Los Náufragos, historically also called Playa de Poniente, is a busy urban beach south of Torrevieja’s port, where golden sand and generally calm water create one of the city’s most practical bathing areas.
The atmosphere is active and family-focused. Volleyball courts, children’s areas, seasonal loungers and nearby beach bars keep the shore lively, while the protecting structures of the port reduce exposure from one side. The beach remains popular with residents as well as visitors, giving it a more everyday character than a purely seasonal resort beach.
Rocky ground at the southern end adds variety and attracts shore anglers.

The Setting
Playa de Poniente / Los Náufragos — Torrevieja’s Southern City Beach
The Local Anchor
The local anchor is Torrevieja’s port and its long relationship with salt and the sea.
The city expanded around salt export, fishing and maritime trade, with the nearby lagoons of La Mata and Torrevieja forming one of the Mediterranean coast’s most distinctive wetland landscapes. The port continues to support fishing, marinas and passenger activity.
Restaurants around the southern waterfront serve fish, seafood, rice and local dishes connected with the salt-working and fishing traditions of the Vega Baja.
The Landscape
BWID ES521M133946 is officially registered as Playa Los Náufragos, although Playa de Poniente remains an older alternative name.
The registered bathing-water section extends for roughly 700 metres, while the principal sandy visitor area is often described as about 400 metres long and 50 metres wide.
Golden sand lies between the port breakwater and a rocky southern edge. Facilities include toilets, foot-washing points, loungers, parasols, nautical rental, sports and children’s areas, lifeguards and accessible entry.
Its identity comes from the city around it: a broad, sheltered shore framed by harbour works, neighbourhood streets and Torrevieja’s maritime horizon.
