About Cala Salions

A whisper on the Costa Brava, Cala Salions is a sun-drenched secret for the discerning traveller. Tucked eight kilometres from the heart of Tossa de Mar, this cove is a world away from the expected.

The Vibe

The air hums with a gentle energy, a tapestry woven from the laughter of families and the soft murmur of couples. It carries the scent of salt and Mediterranean pine, a perfume unique to this rugged coast. The rhythmic lapping of turquoise water against the shore provides a constant, soothing soundtrack, punctuated by the distant chug of a lone fishing boat. There's a quiet joy here, a sense of time slowing to the pace of the tide, inviting you to simply be present in the golden light.

The Setting

The Local Anchor

This cove is intrinsically linked to the medieval ramparts of Tossa de Mar’s Vila Vella, the last fortified medieval town on the Catalan coast, built in the 13th century to repel pirates. The spirit of the fishermen who once sought refuge within those walls lives on in the local cuisine. Imagine them on their boats, cooking the humble yet sublime cim i tomba—a rich stew of unwanted fish, potatoes, and garlic aioli. This dish, born of necessity at sea, is the taste of this coastline: honest, robust, and deeply satisfying.

The Landscape

Carved from the ancient granite of the Cadiretes Massif, the cove is a masterpiece of natural sculpture. Steep cliffs, dense with pine and cork oak, plunge towards the sea, cradling the 80-metre stretch of coarse golden sand. The crystalline waters, a result of the rocky seabed, are an invitation to explore the vibrant marine life below. A small stone pier juts out from the shore, a perfect perch from which to contemplate the raw, unspoiled beauty of this Catalan sanctuary.
