The Vibe

L’Arenal is the largest beach at L’Hospitalet de l’Infant, a broad shore whose character changes noticeably from one end to the other.

The northern section is urban, accessible and family-oriented. Fine sand, shallow water and direct access from the promenade create an easy setting for swimming, play and summer activity. Kayaks, paddleboards and pedalos bring movement to the water, while loungers and nearby services make it practical for a full day beside the sea.

Farther south, the atmosphere becomes quieter as the built frontage gives way to dunes, Mediterranean vegetation and pine woodland.

L’Arenal — Two Landscapes on One Long Beach

The Local Anchor

The local anchor is L’Hospitalet de l’Infant, a coastal town whose name refers to the medieval hospital founded by the Infante Pere in the fourteenth century.

The surviving Gothic hospital complex stands inland from the waterfront and gives the modern resort a historical centre distinct from its marina and beaches.

Local restaurants connect this history with the present coast through fish, rice dishes and Mediterranean cooking, while the harbour provides sailing and boating activity close to the northern end of the beach.

The Landscape

L’Arenal extends for approximately 1.8 kilometres and is formed from fine sand.

Its northern half is a developed urban beach with a promenade and shallow entry. The southern half preserves a more natural sequence of vegetated dunes, Aleppo pine woodland and a small wetland with rushes.

Summer services include lifeguards, kayak and paddleboard hire, pedalos and loungers. A snorkelling route is also associated with the area close to the harbour.

L’Arenal’s strongest feature is this transition: town and activity at one end, dunes and quieter coastal habitat at the other.
