Playa de la Murtra-la Pineda

The atmosphere is relaxed and practical. Families choose this section because access is easier, parking and seasonal facilities are available, and the beach offers more of the familiar comforts expected on a summer day. Even so, the dunes and vegetation prevent it from feeling like a heavily built resort.

The shore is broad enough for sunbathing and walking, while the water can change quickly with wind and local Mediterranean swell. Visitors should follow flags and keep clear of the stream mouth after heavy rain. The beach becomes quieter away from the main access and kiosk areas.

La Murtra-La Pineda is the family-friendly southern section of the Viladecans coast, beside the natural boundary formed by the Murtra stream and close to the Gava shoreline. Fine golden sand, restored dunes and nearby pine woodland create a natural setting with more services than the protected beaches farther north.

The Murtra stream gives the beach its name and marks the transition between Viladecans and Gava. A recovered coastal path links La Murtra with La Pineda, allowing visitors to see the dune system and learn more about the delta environment.

Viladecans sits inland beyond fields, roads and the airport corridor. The contrast between the town, nearby metropolitan infrastructure and this protected-looking seafront is one of the area's defining features.

La Murtra itself is a short sandy section beside the stream, while La Pineda continues east for more than a kilometre. Much of the upper shore belongs to the Natura 2000 network, with vegetated dunes that have regenerated over time.

Pine woodland and low dune ridges soften the view behind the beach. The horizon remains open, and there are no cliffs or headlands to shelter the coast completely from wind.

Storms can alter the sand profile and leave natural material along the waterline. Visitors should use marked paths, avoid trampling dune plants and respect fenced areas. The appeal lies in having family facilities and easy access without losing the feeling of a living delta landscape.
