About A Concha

The Vibe

A Concha brings the Ría de Arousa directly into the daily life of Vilagarcía. It is an urban beach, close to the centre and the railway station, yet its sheltered position gives the water a gentler character than an exposed Atlantic shore.

The atmosphere follows the town rather than escaping from it. Walkers pass along the seafront, residents pause beside the sand, and summer days bring a fuller rhythm to a beach that has long belonged to local life. Fine golden sand and usually quiet water make the setting feel open and accessible, with the broad ría extending beyond the built waterfront.

The Setting

A Concha — Arousa’s Urban Shore

The Local Anchor

A Concha carries an unusually clear link to Vilagarcía’s history as a seaside destination. The former La Concha de Arousa spa stood on the beach from 1886 until the 1960s, marking the period when bathing and summer stays became part of the town’s public identity.

That memory sits naturally beside modern Vilagarcía, a port city formed in 1913 through the union of Vilagarcía, Carril and Vilaxoán. The shore remains part of that connected urban landscape rather than a separate resort enclave.

The Landscape

The official tourism record describes approximately 450 metres of fine sand in a protected urban setting, with calm water and high seasonal use. A Concha once ran directly into neighbouring Compostela beach; alterations to the shoreline now separate them, although together the two sandy stretches extend for more than three kilometres.

The beach is framed by the promenade and city services rather than dunes or cliffs. Its defining view is across the inner Ría de Arousa, where the scale of the estuary softens the urban edge and gives this central beach a broad maritime horizon.
