About Primera y Segunda Caletas

A whisper on the Mediterranean breeze carries you to the secluded coves of Primera y Segunda Caletas, a refuge of raw beauty carved into the Dénia coastline. Here, at the southern reach of the celebrated Les Rotes, the Spanish coast reveals a more intimate, untamed character.

The Vibe

The air is a heady perfume of Aleppo pine and wild rosemary, carried on a gentle sea wind that whispers over the rocks. This is not a place of bustling crowds, but of quiet contemplation, where the rhythmic percussion of waves against ancient stone is the only soundtrack. The sun warms the smooth, worn stones underfoot, inviting you to recline and absorb the serene energy. The water, a crystalline turquoise, is so clear it beckons you to discover the vibrant life beneath its surface, creating an atmosphere of peaceful connection with nature.

The Setting

The Local Anchor

Standing sentinel on the cliffs above is the Torre del Gerro, a formidable 16th-century watchtower. Its stout, jar-like form tells a story of a time when the coast was wary of Barbary pirate raids, its gaze forever fixed on the horizon. This history is savored today in the local restaurants that dot the Les Rotes promenade. Here, the culinary treasure is the prized Dénia red prawn (gamba roja), a delicacy pulled from these very waters. Enjoying this local jewel at a seaside table, with the tower in the distance, is to taste the region's soul.

The Landscape

These are not beaches of fine sand, but twin coves of smooth pebbles and dramatic, ocher-toned rock formations sculpted by millennia of wind and water. They sit at the foot of the majestic Montgó Natural Park, a limestone massif that plunges dramatically toward the sea. Part of the Cabo de San Antonio Marine Reserve, the underwater world is a kaleidoscope of life. Snorkelers can glide through meadows of Posidonia sea grass, discovering starfish, curious octopuses, and schools of colorful fish that dart through the submerged landscape.
