About Arguamul

The Vibe

Arguamul feels like the end of the road, even when reached by path rather than by any clear arrival point. This is an isolated La Gomera shore where strong Atlantic waves, dark volcanic ground, and steep land create an atmosphere of complete exposure. It is not a conventional swimming beach. The surf, lack of surveillance, and remoteness make the coast better suited to experienced sea users, careful exploration, and those drawn to wild scenery. The dominant impression is one of scale: small human traces set against cliffs, ocean, and weather. The sound of breaking water travels across the bay, while changing light moves quickly over rock and sea. Arguamul asks for attention rather than comfort.

The Setting

The Local Anchor

Above the coast lies the hamlet of Arguamul, once one of the more prosperous parts of Vallehermoso. Until the end of the eighteenth century, the small settlements in this area were strongly associated with grain cultivation. That history remains visible in abandoned terraces, scattered buildings, and the way usable land was carved from difficult slopes. The wider municipality carries the characteristic flavours of La Gomera, including almogrote, island cheeses, palm honey, and dishes built around modest local ingredients.

The Landscape

The coast is framed by volcanic cliffs and the Roques de Arguamul, whose offshore forms strengthen the sense of a landscape standing apart from the rest of the island. Vegetation is sparse near the water, while higher slopes reveal older agricultural patterns. Dark rock, foaming surf, and broad Atlantic horizons dominate the view. Arguamul is best understood as a wild coastal territory rather than a serviced beach — a place where the agricultural past of Vallehermoso meets one of La Gomera’s most forceful and solitary shorelines.
