Paleokastritsa

Paleokastritsa is one of Corfu’s most famous coastal settings, known for small bays, headlands, clear water, boat trips and steep green scenery. It is not one simple beach but a cluster of coves and swimming places on the island’s northwestern side. Beach time, snorkelling, viewpoints, caves and short boat excursions can all form part of the same day.

The Vibe

The atmosphere is scenic, busy and sea-led. In summer the central beaches and boat-departure areas can become very popular. The energy is lively but shaped more by scenery and boating than nightlife. Some coves are organised and family-friendly, while others involve rockier access, deeper water or more boat movement.

The Local Anchor

The local anchor is the Monastery of the Virgin of Paleokastritsa on the promontory above the coves. It gives the area a cultural and visual focus. Small boats provide the second anchor, taking visitors toward caves, less accessible coves and swimming places reached more easily from the water.

The Landscape

Green slopes descend into blue-green water and the beaches are generally compact, with combinations of sand, pebble and rock rather than long open strands. Some coves deepen quickly and the water can feel cooler than at shallow sandy beaches. Boat traffic, depth and changing swell should be considered when choosing where to swim.
