Paleokastritsa

Paleokastritsa is one of Corfu’s most famous coastal settings, known for coves, headlands, clear water, boat trips and steep green scenery. It is not one simple beach, but a cluster of small bays and swimming spots on the island’s north-western side. This makes it one of the best Corfu pages for variety: beach time, snorkelling, viewpoints, caves and short boat excursions can all be part of the same day.

The Vibe

The vibe is scenic, busy and sea-led. In summer, the central areas can be very popular, especially around the main beach and boat departure points. The energy is lively, but it is shaped by nature rather than nightlife. Visitors move between swimming corners, boat trips, restaurants, viewpoints and the monastery above the water. Some coves feel organised and family-friendly, while others are more about rocks, depth, boats and dramatic colour.

The Local Anchor

The local anchor is the Monastery of the Virgin of Paleokastritsa, standing on the promontory above the coves. It gives the area a cultural and visual focus, so Paleokastritsa feels more layered than a standard resort beach. The second anchor is the small-boat culture, with trips to caves, hidden coves and nearby water-access spots.

The Landscape

The landscape is steep, compact and photogenic. Green slopes drop into blue-green water, and the beaches are often small, mixed sand-and-pebble sections rather than long open strands. Water can feel cooler and deeper than at shallow sandy beaches.
