About Arrifes

Praia dos Arrifes sits within the Central Algarve Cliffs, shaped by small cove west of Albufeira. It is part of an Algarve coast where a beach day is never only sand and water; it is also tide, wind, local access, summer rhythm and the judgement of sea conditions.

The Vibe

The mood is lively rather than wild, with enough services and movement to feel easy without losing the sense of the coast. Here the character comes through snorkelling mood and a quieter resort edge. Cliff coves can look sheltered, but wind shifts, boat traffic and steps down to the beach make live conditions useful.

Today's Coastal Conditions

Today's conditions for this stretch of the Algarve coast.

The sea state is currently 0.48m, ankle high, making it excellent for swimmers. The day is expected to be partly cloudy with a maximum temperature of 25°C and a minimum of 15°C. The wind is forecast to be moderate, coming from the SW at 15-35 km/h.

The water temperature is 19.7°C, which is cool, so a spring suit or rashie is recommended for extended water activities. The wave conditions are suitable for swimmers, and the clear Atlantic water provides good visibility. The ocean conditions are currently calm, with a gentle wind of 4 km/h from the NW.

For outdoor activities, the current wind of 4 km/h from the NW is suitable for cycling, running, surfing, and snorkeling. It's essential to use SPF 50 sunscreen due to the high UV index forecast peak of 7.2 today. The air quality is good, with an EU AQI of 30, making it a good day for outdoor activities, including surfing, which may be suitable given the ankle-high waves.

The Setting

The Local Anchor

The local anchor is the Lagoa and Albufeira resort coast, where cliff walks, boat trips and older fishing identity shape the day. Around Praia dos Arrifes, everyday Algarve details still matter: fish, ferries or harbours where relevant, boardwalks, old village lanes, seasonal facilities and the habit of planning around sun, wind and water. The beach connects to a real place, not just a view, which is what makes it useful for visitors choosing where to spend the day.

The Landscape

Rock stacks, clear water and sheltered sand pockets. This is classic limestone Algarve: ochre cliffs, arches, small coves and open sand broken by rocky shelves. The shore should be read with care: cliffs can mean steep steps and falling-rock zones, river mouths change with the tide, and open Atlantic beaches can look inviting while still carrying strong surf.

It offers the visual pleasure people expect from Portugal, while giving clear reasons to check live wind, wave height, UV and local flags before settling in.
