About Playa a Concheira
A Concheira feels brisk, urban and closely connected to the sea. Waves and wind can be more noticeable here than on the beaches inside the bay, so it is as much a place for watching the water as for swimming. The beach is small and can lose space as the tide rises, but its position makes it ideal for a short seaside pause during a walk around Baiona. Evening light and Atlantic weather give the shore a constantly changing mood.

The Setting
A Concheira is a short open beach on Paseo de Pinzon in Baiona, immediately outside the historic waterfront on the seaward side of the Monterreal peninsula. Around 75 metres long, it is formed from coarse sand rather than the finer sand found inside Baiona's more sheltered bay. The promenade runs directly behind the beach, placing the open coast within a few minutes' walk of the old town.
Baiona's historic centre and the Monterreal fortress are the defining anchors. The walled peninsula separates the harbour side from the more exposed coast, and the path around it gives visitors changing views of the beach, the bay and the Atlantic. Baiona's fishing and sailing traditions remain visible around the waterfront, while cafes, streets and historic buildings sit close enough to make A Concheira part of a wider town visit.
The beach lies below a coastal promenade with rocky ground at either end. Coarse sand gives the shore a firmer, more textured appearance than Baiona's broader inner-bay beaches. Beyond the peninsula, the view opens towards the Atlantic and the approaches to the Ria de Vigo. The contrast is striking: historic walls and town life behind, open water ahead, and a small beach occupying the narrow space between them.
A Concheira is also a useful weather-watching point. The outer-coast position makes changes in swell, cloud and wind more visible than inside the harbour. Even when bathing is unsuitable, the promenade keeps the beach easy to enjoy as part of a coastal walk.
