About Playa Mar de Lira
The atmosphere is friendly and family orientated. Children use the sand and nearby play facilities, while walkers continue along the boardwalk towards Portocubelo. The beach's modest size means it can feel lively during warm holiday periods, but the wider coastal route provides room to move and explore. Water conditions vary with Atlantic weather, so visitors should not assume shelter simply because the beach is small. The best days combine beach time with an easy walk and a meal in the surrounding parish.

The Setting
Mar de Lira is a small, accessible beach in the Carnota municipality, positioned between the broad sands of the bay and the fishing landscape of Portocubelo. It becomes popular in summer because it combines a manageable shore with nearby recreation space, a children's play area and a wooden walkway leading along the coast. The beach feels social and local rather than remote.
Lira is the clear cultural reference. The parish's large historic horreo, church and fishing traditions show how agriculture and the sea have supported the community together. Portocubelo harbour lies along the connected walking route, bringing boats and maritime work directly into the visitor experience. Local seafood, particularly octopus, shellfish and fish, continues that story at the table and gives the area an identity far stronger than a generic summer beach.
Mar de Lira occupies a compact curve of pale sand beneath low green slopes. The boardwalk opens increasingly wide views towards Carnota's immense sandy bay and the granite form of Monte Pindo. Rocky sections and small inlets add texture as the route approaches Portocubelo. The setting is therefore larger than the beach itself: the sand acts as an entry point to a coastline of walking paths, harbour views and long Atlantic panoramas. Its appeal lies in connection rather than isolation. The surrounding route makes the location suitable for visitors who do not want to remain on the sand all day. Benches, viewpoints and the harbour provide natural pauses as the coastline opens out.
