Playa Calblanque

Calblanque feels wild, spacious and deliberately removed from resort convenience. Visitors come for walking, swimming and time in a protected landscape rather than for a promenade or organised entertainment. Summer access can be managed through seasonal transport arrangements to reduce traffic and pressure on the park.

The beach faces the open Mediterranean and is exposed to wind and waves. The sandy entry can become active during unsettled weather, while the broad upper shore remains fully exposed to sun. Visitors should bring water, shade and suitable footwear, use recognised paths and avoid disturbing dunes or salt-flat habitat.

Playa Calblanque lies within the protected Calblanque, Monte de las Cenizas y Pena del Aguila regional park south of the Mar Menor. Its ochre sand, dunes, dark rock and undeveloped hills create one of the most natural and visually distinctive beaches in Murcia.

The regional park is the essential anchor. Its protected landscape includes beaches, fossil dunes, salt flats, low mountains and former mining areas linked with the Sierra Minera of Cartagena-La Union.

The Salinas del Rasall lie behind parts of the coast and support birds and salt-tolerant vegetation. Cabo de Palos and La Manga remain nearby geographically, but the park's undeveloped interior creates a very different atmosphere.

Ochre-gold sand stretches beneath dark, folded hills and low Mediterranean scrub. Dunes and wetland depressions occupy the rear landscape, with no continuous buildings or formal seafront.

Rocky headlands break the coast into several natural sections, while the water changes quickly from pale green to deep blue. Inland ridges screen much of the surrounding development. Calblanque is defined by contrast: warm sand, dark geology, open sea and protected dryland assembled within a coastline that still feels largely untouched. Seasonal access controls are important because the road network, parking areas and dunes cannot absorb unlimited traffic. Walking from designated stops also reveals the salt flats and dry interior before the sea appears. Wildlife watching is best kept quiet and unobtrusive.
