Playa Cala sa Nau

The beach feels hidden during the final approach, but it is well known and can become crowded once the small sand area fills. Visitors arrive for swimming, snorkelling and the beach restaurant, while boats often pause near the cove mouth. Early morning preserves the quietest version of the setting and makes the limited space easier to appreciate. Parking pressure rises sharply in August.

When that begins, the rock ledges become rougher before the central sand appears seriously affected, so towels and footwear should be moved away from low shelves early. The same enclosed geometry that looks protective in calm weather can make restless water surprisingly confused at the edges.

Cala sa Nau is a narrow limestone cove on the rural Felanitx coast between Portocolom and Cala Ferrera. A compact sandy beach lies at the end of the inlet, with pine, rock and clear-looking water creating a strong sense of enclosure despite its summer popularity.

The inland village of s'Horta is the nearest traditional centre, surrounded by fields, almond and carob trees, and lanes edged with dry-stone walls. The rural approach is an important part of Cala sa Nau's identity because there is no large coastal town directly behind the beach.

Nearby Cala Mitjana is a separate, smaller cove with more difficult land access. Keeping the two names distinct matters when planning a visit, as Cala sa Nau has its own road, parking area and seasonal facilities.

Pale vertical rock encloses a ribbon of blue water before opening onto a small wedge of fine sand. Pines and scrub cling to the upper edges, while development is limited compared with the resort coves farther south.

The view is directed outward through the cove mouth rather than spread across a broad horizon. Cala sa Nau's appeal lies in this compressed perspective: rural land behind, limestone walls at either side and a bright Mediterranean opening directly ahead.
