Playa s'Estanyol

The atmosphere is simple and local. Walkers, anglers and residents use the shore, while visitors following the coast towards Punta Plana stop for a swim or rest. There are no ranks of sunbeds and no continuous restaurant frontage, so everything needed for the visit should be carried from S'Estanyol. Natural shade is scarce on the exposed shore, and the walk back to the village feels longer in midday heat. Carrying water matters more here than carrying beach equipment.

The seabed is rocky in several places and low shelves can be covered quickly when swell arrives. Once water is washing repeatedly across the flat stone, the route back to dry ground becomes slippery and less obvious. Shoes with grip are more useful here than bare feet, particularly for anyone exploring beyond the small sandy pocket.

Raco de S'Arena is a small mixed sand-and-rock beach beside S'Estanyol de Migjorn on Llucmajor's low southern coast. Reached on foot from the village, it offers clear-looking water, old maritime structures and a much quieter setting than Mallorca's organised resort beaches.

S'Estanyol's yacht club and modest harbour provide the nearest services and a practical starting point. From there, the coastal route continues around Punta Plana towards the Torre de s'Estalella, a late-sixteenth-century watchtower built into Mallorca's defensive network.

The walk also passes traditional boat sheds, old quarry marks in the mares sandstone and a low coastal beacon. These details reveal a shoreline used for fishing, stone extraction and navigation long before it became a recreational route.

Raco de S'Arena sits within a horizontal landscape of pale rock, scrub, wind-shaped pines and open sea. Small areas of sand collect between harder shelves rather than forming a broad continuous beach.

The lack of high cliffs gives the coast a wide sky, while Punta Plana provides some shape and partial shelter. This is a place where texture matters more than scale: weathered stone, transparent shallows, old slipways and low vegetation combining into a distinctly southern Mallorcan shore.
