Playa de Llevant

Llevant is lively from morning until evening. Families, sports users, swimmers and promenade walkers share a beach designed for high summer use, with play areas and organised activities close to the main entrances. Its size provides room, but the central sections can still become crowded during school holidays and major events.

This is the right beach for visitors who want convenience rather than seclusion. Restaurants, shops and public transport sit close behind the promenade. Flags, lifeguard instructions and marked water-sport channels should be followed carefully because the amount of activity can create more movement than the calm appearance suggests.

Platja de Llevant is Salou's principal urban beach, extending beside the palm-lined Passeig Jaume I in the heart of the resort. Fine golden sand, shallow-looking water and extensive seasonal services make it the municipality's busiest and most recognisable shoreline.

Passeig Jaume I is the defining local feature. The wide promenade carries Salou's best-known monument to King Jaume I, commemorating the 1229 departure of the fleet associated with the conquest of Mallorca. Fountains, gardens and public spaces reinforce the beach's role as the social centre of the modern resort. Accessible bathing arrangements also operate seasonally at designated points.

The marina marks the western end and separates Llevant from Ponent. From here, Salou's history as a harbour and later tourism destination is visible in one continuous waterfront, although the present landscape is shaped mainly by leisure, accommodation and seasonal entertainment.

Llevant forms a long, broad crescent of fine sand with a low urban skyline behind it. Palms and the promenade create a formal edge, while the open bay gives wide views across the Mediterranean.

There are no cliffs or dunes to provide enclosure. The appeal lies in scale, accessibility and an orderly relationship between town and beach. At quieter times, the broad sand and early light reveal the natural curve of the bay; at peak times, the same space becomes a colourful, animated extension of central Salou.
