About Playa s'Arenal Gros

The Vibe

The atmosphere is friendly, practical and noticeably more organised than the small coves farther west. Families use the broad central sand, visitors move easily between the water and nearby terraces, and excursion boats add movement beyond the bathing zone. Summer is lively, but the scale remains modest compared with Ibiza's major southern resorts.

The bay often appears calm, yet wind, boat traffic and changing conditions still require attention. Bathing decisions should follow the flag system, with boat approaches and launch lanes left completely clear. The sandy entry is generally easier than at Xarraca or Xucla, while the promenade provides shade, food and a level route around part of the waterfront throughout the main holiday season.

The Setting

About

S'Arenal Gros is the largest sandy beach in Portinatx, occupying a well-protected-looking bay on Ibiza's northern tip. Fine pale sand, shallow-looking water and a promenade lined with hotels and restaurants make it the resort's most convenient family beach.

The Local Anchor

Portinatx is formed around three separate beaches: S'Arenal Gros, smaller S'Arenal Petit and Port de Portinatx. Their close spacing allows visitors to compare conditions and atmosphere without leaving the settlement, but each retains its own access and shoreline shape.

The Torre de Portinatx stands on higher ground near the coast and reflects the defensive history of Ibiza's watchtower network. Walking routes around the headlands also reveal views towards the lighthouse of Moscarter, whose striped tower marks the island's northern maritime landscape.

The Landscape

A generous crescent of light sand sits beneath low wooded slopes and resort buildings. Rocky headlands narrow the view towards open water, giving the beach a contained shape and helping distinguish it from Ibiza's long exposed strands.

The central bay is urbanised, yet the surrounding coast remains rugged. From the sand, hotel terraces and boats create a holiday scene; from paths above, the beach appears as one sheltered pocket among pine-covered points and deep blue sea. S'Arenal Gros succeeds as a practical northern base because facilities are close while several more natural coves remain within a short journey.
