Playa Preguntoiro

The atmosphere is relaxed and family-oriented. Fine sand, protection from common winds and moderate water movement make Preguntoiro appealing for a simple beach day when conditions are suitable. Residents and summer visitors share the shore, while village streets, food and harbour activity remain close enough to make the visit easy.

The beach can become sociable in warm weather without feeling like a purpose-built resort. Tide changes the usable width and reveals more of the cove's edges, so visitors staying for several hours should choose a position with the rising water in mind.

Preguntoiro is a sheltered fine-sand beach in Vilaxoan, south of central Vilagarcia de Arousa. The cove sits in a semiurban setting beside the fishing village, with a rounded shoreline and calm-looking estuary water. It is larger than nearby Canelas but retains a distinctly local scale.

Vilaxoan is the immediate anchor. Its fishing port, Church of San Martin de Sobran and compact streets preserve a separate village identity within the wider Vilagarcia municipality. The harbour connects the beach with the shellfish and fishing traditions of the Ria de Arousa.

Canelas lies a short distance away, while Pazo de Sobran and Pazo de O Rial provide historic references inland. Northward, Vilagarcia offers a larger marina, shops and the long Compostela waterfront.

Preguntoiro forms a half-shell beach of fine pale sand, sheltered within the ria and backed by a semiurban village environment. Low rocky margins contain the curve, while nearby homes and vegetation create a close, settled backdrop.

The wider view reaches across productive estuary waters marked by mussel rafts and passing small craft. The ria's islands and distant shores soften the horizon, giving the beach an enclosed feeling compared with the open Atlantic coast. At low water, more sand and intertidal ground are exposed; at higher tide, the cove becomes compact and the waterline draws near the back. Preguntoiro's character comes from this balance of sheltered bathing, working maritime scenery and the everyday life of Vilaxoan immediately behind the shore.
