About Las Monjas
Las Monjas — A Quiet Edge of La Palma ## The Vibe Las Monjas is a discreet stretch of La Palma’s western shoreline, removed from the organised rhythm of the island’s larger beaches. The coast here feels private and self-contained, with dark volcanic ground, open Atlantic light, and few distractions from the movement of the water. It is traditionally associated with naturism, but its defining quality is not any single type of visitor. What stands out is the sense of release that comes from a small, isolated place where the landscape sets the pace. Moderate swell is common, so the water should be approached with care rather than assumed to be calm. The atmosphere is quiet without feeling delicate. This is a shore shaped by exposure, where the sun can be warm and generous while the sea remains unmistakably Atlantic. ## The Local Anchor Las Monjas lies on the coastal strip south of Puerto Naos, within Los Llanos de Aridane. The wider area is marked by banana cultivation, lava-built terraces, and small communities whose lives have long balanced agriculture with the sea. Further along the coast, El Remo preserves a more informal maritime character, with local cooking centred on fish, limpets, potatoes, and mojo. That connection gives Las Monjas context: it is not an isolated beauty spot detached from daily life, but part of a working western coastline. ## The Landscape The beach occupies a small recess in a dark volcanic shore. Rock, gravel, and patches of black sand may shift with the sea, while low cliffs and lava formations frame the water. There is little urban presence at the beach itself. Its visual strength comes from simplicity — black ground, blue ocean, and the steep western face of La Palma rising inland. Las Monjas is best suited to visitors who value space, discretion, and a natural setting more than facilities or easy bathing.
