Issos & Lake Korission

Issos is one of southern Corfu’s most distinctive coastal landscapes, set between the Ionian Sea and the dunes and wetlands of Lake Korission. It feels very different from the island’s resort strips. The beach is broad, sandy and open, with a strong sense of space and a more natural rhythm than Ipsos, Dassia or Glyfada.

The Vibe

The atmosphere is natural, spacious and active. Visitors come for the dunes, long walks and open views, while favourable wind can attract kitesurfers and windsurfers. Families also use the broad sand and relatively gentle entry during calm conditions, but exposure and changing wind matter more here than on Corfu’s eastern shore.

The Local Anchor

The local anchor is Lake Korission behind the beach. The lagoon, dunes, coastal woodland and birdlife give Issos an ecological identity that is much stronger than an ordinary resort strand. In 2026, the specifically managed section listed as Issos/Sandy Beach Resort received a Blue Flag; the award applies to that named section rather than every part of the wider beach.

The Landscape

The landscape is broad and wind-shaped. Dunes separate the sea from the lagoon, with low vegetation and coastal woodland behind the sand. The open coast can be gentle in settled weather and considerably more energetic when the breeze and swell increase.
