About Issos & Lake Korission

Issos is one of southern Corfu’s most distinctive coastal landscapes, set beside the dunes, cedar woodland and wetland environment of Lake Korission. It feels very different from the island’s resort strips. The beach is broad, sandy and open, with a strong sense of space and a more natural rhythm than places such as Ipsos, Dassia or Glyfada.

The Vibe

The vibe is natural, spacious and active. Visitors come for room, light, dunes and a wilder setting, but Issos is not empty or forgotten. In summer, organised sections and nearby accommodation bring beach life, while wind conditions can attract kitesurfers and windsurfers. Families also use the sand and shallow access when the sea is calm, but this is a place where wind and exposure matter more than on Corfu’s sheltered east coast.

The Setting

The Local Anchor

The local anchor is Lake Korission behind the beach. The lagoon, dunes, vegetation and birdlife give Issos an ecological identity that is much stronger than a normal holiday strand. The coast is part of a wider natural system, not just a bathing place. The 2026 Greek Blue Flag list includes Issos / Sandy Beach Resort, so part of the area also sits within a recognised managed beach environment.

The Landscape

The landscape is wide and wind-shaped. Dunes separate the sea from the lake, with cedar trees and low vegetation adding texture behind the sand. The open coast can be beautiful in calm weather and more powerful when the breeze builds.
