Playa Area da Secada

The beach combines a natural setting with the practical character of a recognised family beach. Summer brings swimmers, families and walkers, but the length of the shore and the wooded edge help it retain a relaxed atmosphere. Pine shade is especially welcome on warm days, while the sandy curve provides room for walking.

Area de Secada is more organised than many of A Illa's tiny coves, yet it does not feel like a built-up resort. The water is generally protected from direct ocean swell, although wind, tide and local currents should still guide bathing decisions.

Area de Secada is one of A Illa de Arousa's most attractive, popular and accessible beaches, set on the northwestern side of the island. A broad curve of sand lies beside pine woodland, with sheltered ria water and open views towards the outer parts of the estuary.

A Illa de Arousa is the wider anchor, with O Xufre harbour, fishing activity and shellfish culture defining everyday life. Mussel rafts spread across the ria, and seafood remains central to the island's identity.

The beach is also connected to the island's network of coastal paths. Walkers can continue towards rocky points, smaller coves and viewpoints, gaining a fuller sense of the island's varied shoreline.

Area de Secada is framed by sand, pine trees and low granite. The beach opens towards a broad section of the Ria de Arousa, where distant mainland, islands and working aquaculture create a layered horizon.

The tide changes the width of the shore but does not erase its generous scale. At lower water, the beach feels broad and horizontal; at higher tide, the curve becomes more defined against the wooded back.

The landscape balances shelter and openness. Trees contain the landward side, while the water view remains expansive. There are no dramatic cliffs or large buildings dominating the scene, only the low forms typical of A Illa: pine, rock, pale sand and changing estuary light.
