Playa Castineira - Cangas

The atmosphere is intimate and low-key. Castineiras is not a place for long promenades or a full resort programme; its appeal lies in settling into a modest bay where the shore, rocks and vegetation remain close together. Sheltered water can encourage relaxed swimming and paddling when conditions are suitable. Because the usable sand changes with the tide and the beach is relatively short, arriving outside the busiest summer hours can make a noticeable difference to the sense of space.

Castineiras is a small, sheltered beach at Pintens in the O Hio parish of Cangas de Morrazo. Its fine-sand shoreline is around 150 metres long, placing it between the tiny coves and the larger family beaches of this coast. The bay is enclosed enough to feel approachable, yet it remains part of a green, lightly developed section of the peninsula. It suits visitors looking for a quieter alternative to the best-known beaches around Cabo Home and the Ria de Aldan.

Pintens is the immediate reference point, a small coastal settlement within O Hio. Nearby beaches can be combined into a slow tour of this part of Cangas, with Pintens itself offering a longer stretch of sand and Arneles lying farther around the coast. The parish centre at Hio is worth a detour for its richly carved stone cross, while Aldan provides a harbour-side stop on the protected ria. Cangas town remains the main base for shops, restaurants and wider transport connections.

Fine sand forms a compact curve between granite edges, with greenery descending close to the shoreline. The sheltered setting reduces the sense of open Atlantic exposure and creates a more enclosed view than at Melide or the outer Costa da Vela. Houses and local roads are present in the wider area, but the beach itself retains a simple coastal character. Castineiras is defined by small scale and close proportions: a short sand strip, quiet water, rocky boundaries and the wooded slopes of the Morrazo peninsula.
