Playa Area Cova

This is a calm, local-feeling beach rather than a dramatic Atlantic strand. Families, swimmers and people staying nearby make up much of the summer atmosphere, while quieter mornings and evenings reveal the softer pace of the inlet. The fine sand and usually sheltered water make Areacova inviting for paddling and relaxed swimming when conditions are suitable. Small boats may be visible farther out, reinforcing the sense that the beach belongs to a working coastal landscape as well as a holiday coastline.

Areacova is a fine-sand beach at A Espineira, on the Aldan side of Cangas de Morrazo. Its roughly 250-metre shoreline sits inside the Ria de Aldan, where the water is more protected than on the outer edge of the Morrazo peninsula. The beach works well for an easy, unhurried day beside the sea, particularly for visitors who prefer a manageable bay, gentle scenery and views across to the opposite shore of the ria. Its moderate size also makes the whole waterfront easy to understand at a glance.

Aldan is the natural base for understanding the beach. The village has a maritime character shaped by its harbour, boats and close relationship with the narrow ria. Visitors can combine beach time with a walk around the waterfront or a meal in the local area, rather than treating Areacova as an isolated stop. Cangas is the nearest larger town, but Aldan provides the immediate sense of place: compact, green and closely tied to the water on both sides of the settlement.

The beach forms a simple strip of pale sand beneath a green, inhabited hillside. Across the water, the opposite side of the ria remains clearly visible, so the outlook feels enclosed and intimate instead of ocean-wide. Rocky edges help define the bay, while the changing tide alters the amount of exposed sand and the distance to the water. Areacova's appeal comes from this balance of fine sand, sheltered sea and layered shoreline, with houses, trees and small-scale maritime activity woven into the view.
