About Playa del Port de la Selva
The atmosphere is relaxed, maritime and strongly shaped by the wind. Families and swimmers use the central shore, while sailing, kayaking and wind-powered sports become prominent when conditions allow. The beach is close to restaurants, accommodation and the waterfront promenade.
The bay offers more shelter than the outer Cap de Creus coast, but tramuntana can still arrive forcefully and alter the sea within a short time. Swimmers and paddlers should check flags, forecasts and local advice, especially before moving far from shore.

The Setting
The main beach of El Port de la Selva curves beside the village and harbour on the northern side of the Cap de Creus peninsula. Sand and fine gravel, shallow-looking water and a broad bay make it the municipality's most accessible family beach.
The fishing harbour is the immediate anchor. Working boats, leisure craft and the white village form a continuous waterfront, showing how tourism and maritime activity share the same bay.
The monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes rises high in the mountains behind the village and is one of the region's major historic landmarks. Roads and walking routes climb towards the monastery, viewpoints and the ruins around Santa Creu de Rodes.
The beach lies inside a wide natural bay framed by the rugged slopes of Cap de Creus and the Serra de Rodes. The village lines the shore without hiding the surrounding mountains, and the harbour occupies one end of the view.
The surface can appear smooth in settled weather, while strong northerly wind quickly creates chop and white water farther out. The beach profile and patches of coarse material reflect this exposed climate.
El Port de la Selva's main beach is less dramatic than the remote coves around Cap de Creus, but it provides the clearest introduction to the area. From the sand, visitors can see village, harbour, mountain and open bay together. Its appeal lies in this complete landscape and the ease of moving from swimming to a waterfront meal or an evening walk.
