Playa de la Farella

The atmosphere is relaxed and slightly cosmopolitan, with families, couples, regular swimmers and coastal walkers sharing a limited strip of sand. Because the beach is narrow, it can feel full quickly in summer, yet the two-part shape creates small changes of mood from one section to the other.

La Farella is well suited to swimming when conditions are settled and to snorkelling around the rockier margins. The water entry is generally manageable, but gravel, submerged stone and wind-driven waves still call for care. Visitors arriving on foot often value the beach as part of a longer Cami de Ronda outing rather than as an isolated destination.

La Farella is a narrow, gently shelving beach on the southern side of Llanca, reached from a residential area or along the coastal path towards Port de la Selva. Fine sand mixed with gravel and a rocky projection dividing the shore give it a more intimate shape than the main Port beach.

Llanca's Port district lies a short distance north, with its fishing harbour, marina and waterfront restaurants. Southward, the coastal path leads through Cau del Llop and onward towards El Port de la Selva, revealing one of the most rewarding walking sections on this coast.

The beach name is linked to the Catalan word farell, associated with lights used to guide sailors or with the lantern fishing boats that once worked these waters. That maritime reference fits a shoreline where traditional fishing methods remained important for generations.

La Farella extends for roughly 260 metres but averages only a modest width. A rocky mound reaches into the sea and divides the beach visually, while residential slopes and Mediterranean vegetation rise behind it.

The shore faces southeast, offering attractive morning light and some protection from particular wind directions, though not from every change in weather. The coastal path is essential to the landscape. From it, La Farella appears as a small pale strip held between rugged stone and developed hillsides. The beach balances accessibility with a genuine sense of the Cap de Creus coast: compact, rocky and best understood as one stop within a continuous walking landscape.
