Playa Cemento

Cemento feels raw, local and lightly used. Walkers, anglers and residents from nearby neighbourhoods are more typical than organised holiday crowds, while the limited sand provides little space for large groups. Visitors come with realistic expectations of a working industrial coastline.

The surface includes dark sand, gravel and stone. Wind and short Mediterranean waves can make the narrow waterline energetic, and facilities are more limited than at the larger beaches west of El Candado. The setting suits a brief stop or coastal walk more than a full resort-style beach day.

Playa Cemento is a small eastern Malaga beach positioned directly in front of the cement works between La Arana and Penon del Cuervo. Its dark shore, industrial backdrop and exposed coastal setting give it a character unlike any of the city's conventional urban beaches.

The Malaga cement factory is the defining landmark and the source of the beach's name. Its silos, conveyors and industrial buildings dominate the inland view, illustrating the long role of manufacturing along the city's eastern edge.

La Arana lies immediately east, with its residential community and important prehistoric cave sites. Penon del Cuervo lies west and provides a contrasting recreational landscape around a prominent offshore rock. Together, the three beaches show rapid changes along a very short section of coast.

Dark sand and gravel occupy a narrow strip between the Mediterranean and industrial infrastructure. The factory rises close behind, while roads, retaining structures and rocky terrain limit the natural rear shoreline.

The open sea remains visually strong despite the plant. Eastward, the coast reaches La Arana; westward, Penon del Cuervo's rock becomes the main landmark. Playa Cemento is not conventionally picturesque, but it is geographically honest. Its identity lies in the direct meeting of beach, heavy industry and the limestone coast at Malaga's eastern edge. The narrow coast also forms part of the walking and cycling connection between Penon del Cuervo and La Arana, so many people experience it as a transitional landscape rather than a stand-alone destination.
