Playa de la Alcazaba

La Alcazaba feels compact, atmospheric and closely connected with sightseeing. Visitors come for a short swim, waterfront pause or view of the walls rather than for broad sand and extensive facilities. The limited shore becomes occupied quickly during warm weather.

The surface includes sand, gravel and stones, and access may involve steps or confined routes. Mediterranean wind and waves can affect the small bathing area directly. Facilities are limited compared with the main southern beaches, so visitors should arrive light and use the beach only when local conditions are suitable.

Playa de la Alcazaba lies below Melilla la Vieja on the northern side of the historic citadel. Its small mixed shore, fortified backdrop and direct relationship with the old city create a distinctive urban beach shaped more by heritage than resort development.

Melilla la Vieja is the defining feature. Its fortified walls, bastions, museums and historic buildings occupy the rocky peninsula between the port and open sea, preserving layers of Mediterranean military and civic history.

The Cuevas del Conventico, port viewpoints and central modernist district are all close. Restaurants nearby reflect Melilla's multicultural identity through seafood, tapas and dishes influenced by Moroccan flavours.

A small mixed shore lies beneath high stone walls and steep urban slopes. The built heritage dominates the rear view, while the Mediterranean opens northward beyond the compact inlet.

Port structures and the city skyline appear nearby, but the beach retains an enclosed atmosphere because of the citadel above. La Alcazaba is defined by historical concentration: fortifications, rock, water and city access gathered within one of Melilla's most visually memorable coastal corners. The beach is best combined with a visit to the citadel, where museums, walls and elevated viewpoints explain the geography of the coastline below. Evening light gives the pale stone and blue water an especially strong contrast. The small inlet is fully exposed to midday sun, with very little natural shade. Space remains extremely limited.
