About Playa de la Pixerota
Its surface can include both sand and rounded pebbles, giving the beach a more natural texture. The sea is fully exposed to Mediterranean weather, so a peaceful morning can feel very different after an onshore wind develops. This is a place for an unhurried beach day, with conditions checked rather than assumed.

The Setting
Platja de la Pixerota is a semi-natural beach on the Mont-roig del Camp coastline, valued for space, open views and a noticeably quieter setting than the main waterfront of Miami Platja. The shore attracts families, walkers and visitors who prefer a landscape of sand, low vegetation and scattered development rather than a dense promenade.
La Pixerota has an unusually strong connection with Joan Miro. The artist spent long periods at the family's nearby farm and is recorded as using this beach for swimming and exercise. The coastal plain, cultivated land and intense colours of Mont-roig became central to his understanding of the area. The bunkers standing on the beach add a second, very different historical layer. Built during the Spanish Civil War, they remain visible in the sand and now serve as distinctive viewpoints across the Gulf of Sant Jordi. Together, the Miro association and the wartime structures make this more than an anonymous stretch of coast.
The beach extends across a broad, low-lying shoreline backed in places by campsites, fields, reed growth and coastal vegetation. Its open shape creates long views north and south, while the absence of enclosing headlands leaves it exposed to wind and wave action. Golden sand is mixed with coarser material, and the waterline can alter after storms. The bunkers interrupt the otherwise horizontal scene, standing as weathered concrete forms against sea and sky. Visitors should avoid climbing fragile or restricted sections and should respect any protected vegetation behind the beach. La Pixerota's appeal comes from this combination of cultural memory and coastal openness: a working landscape behind, a wide Mediterranean horizon ahead and enough space for the beach to retain a distinct sense of place.
