About Playa Torrecilla

The Vibe

Torrecilla is sociable, well serviced and less steeply accessed than the small coves below the Balcon de Europa. Families, regular swimmers and visitors from nearby hotels spread across the beach, while the promenade remains active with walkers and cafe customers.

The mixed surface is firm and can include pebbles near the waterline. Breakwaters influence parts of the shore, but conditions still vary with wind and local waves. Seasonal rescue services, accessible facilities and nearby restaurants support a straightforward full day by the sea.

The Setting

About Playa Torrecilla

Playa Torrecilla lies west of central Nerja between the old town and the mouth of the Rio Chillar. Its broad dark sand-and-gravel shore, promenade and easy access from Plaza de los Cangrejos make it one of the town's most practical family beaches.

The Local Anchor

Plaza de los Cangrejos provides the main social entrance, with restaurants, apartments and public space overlooking the beach. The name Torrecilla recalls the coastal watchtower that once stood in this area and formed part of the defensive network around Nerja.

The town centre and Balcon de Europa are within walking distance east, while El Chucho and El Playazo continue west. Chiringuitos serve grilled fish, sardine espetos, seafood and rice dishes close to the sand.

The Landscape

Dark golden sand forms a broad urban curve backed by palms, promenade paving, hotels and apartment buildings. Low breakwaters and rocky edges divide the waterline visually without closing the horizon.

Eastward, the shoreline climbs towards the central coves and Balcon de Europa. Westward, the coast becomes flatter around the Chillar mouth and El Playazo. Inland, Nerja's white buildings rise against the Sierra de Almijara. Torrecilla is defined by accessibility and connection: an urban beach linking the old town with the longer, more open coastline to the west. The beach is approximately three hundred metres long and wider than many central Nerja coves. Its western promenade also provides a direct walking connection towards El Chucho without climbing back through the old town.
