About Playa de Punta Prima

The Vibe

Punta Prima is practical and sociable rather than secluded. Families and holidaymakers use the sand for swimming, sunbathing and short beach days, while the upper promenade draws walkers who want the view without descending to the shore. Its modest size means the main bathing area can fill quickly during settled summer weather.

The beach is protected to some degree by its shape and rocky edges, but waves still reach the shore. Flags and lifeguard guidance should determine whether the water is suitable, especially for children or weaker swimmers. The higher promenade offers an alternative when the sea is rough or the sand feels crowded.

The Setting

About

Playa de Punta Prima is the northernmost main beach on the Orihuela coastline, close to the municipal boundary with Torrevieja. A compact curve of sand below a raised promenade combines broad sea views with an urban, accessible setting.

The Local Anchor

An elevator links the upper level with the beach, making Punta Prima distinctive among Orihuela's coves and improving access for visitors who find steps difficult. Paths and viewpoints along the raised edge provide open views towards the Mediterranean and the neighbouring Torrevieja coast.

Punta Prima also marks the beginning of Orihuela Costa's linked sequence of beaches and coastal walks. Cala Mosca and Playa Flamenca lie farther south, while Torrevieja begins beyond the boundary. Restaurants and residential streets behind the promenade make this an easy beach to combine with a meal or an evening walk.

The Landscape

The strand lies below reddish and pale rocky ground, with a built waterfront set above rather than directly on the sand. The bay is short and gently curved, and the contrast between the upper promenade and lower waterline gives the beach a layered appearance.

There are no dunes or extensive natural hinterland. Instead, Punta Prima is defined by its elevated access, small sandy shore and position at the edge of two coastal municipalities. Looking north, the shoreline continues towards Torrevieja; looking south, the coves and promenades of Orihuela Costa unfold in a long chain.
