About Playa Puerto Rey
Puerto Rey is sociable, spacious and strongly oriented towards long beach days. Families gather near the main access points, while walkers and runners use the broad, level shoreline. The beach can be busy in summer, but its width and length allow visitors to move away from the most concentrated areas.
The setting is developed without feeling completely urban. Apartments, holiday complexes and beach businesses sit nearby, yet the open sand remains the dominant feature. Water activities and informal sports add energy, while early mornings and evenings offer a calmer pace.

The Setting
Playa Puerto Rey is a wide sandy beach on the Vera coast, beginning near the mouth of the Rio Antas and continuing north towards El Playazo. Its fine pale sand, extensive space, sports areas and nearby holiday development make it a popular family beach with more room than many compact Mediterranean resort shores.
The mouth of the Rio Antas and the small Puerto Rey lagoon form the most important natural feature. Reed beds and wet ground provide resting habitat for birds moving between Europe and Africa, creating a surprising pocket of wildlife beside a popular holiday beach.
Vera town lies inland and provides the historical centre of the municipality, with the fortified Church of Nuestra Senora de la Encarnacion and traditional streets around the Plaza Mayor. Along the coast, restaurants combine seafood with Almeria produce, serving rice dishes, grilled fish and local recipes such as gurullos or ajo colorao.
Puerto Rey extends along a broad line of fine, light-coloured sand. The beach begins near the river mouth and lagoon, then opens northward with low-rise development behind and the Mediterranean stretching east.
The coast is flat and exposed, with few natural headlands interrupting the view. Inland, dry hills and agricultural land form the wider backdrop beyond the holiday zone. The lagoon, reed beds and river mouth prevent the setting from becoming visually generic, while the scale of the sand gives Puerto Rey a sense of openness even at the height of the season.
