About Playa Piedra Villazar

The Vibe

Piedra Villazar is practical, sociable and family-friendly. The beach sits directly within the developed seafront, so people move easily between the sand, nearby accommodation, restaurants and the coastal road. It can be lively in summer, but its scale gives it a recognisable identity.

The medium-grained grey sand is comfortable for a conventional beach day, and the serviced setting suits visitors who value accessible facilities. Municipal information lists lifeguard provision in season, toilets, showers, adapted access, an amphibious chair and nearby parking. A playground and sports area add to its usefulness for families.

The Setting

About Playa Piedra Villazar

Playa Piedra Villazar is a compact urban beach on the central Mojacar coast, close to the junction linking Mojacar Playa with the road up to Mojacar Pueblo. It takes its name from the distinctive rock on the sand and combines easy access, visitor services and a convenient position near the Parador and commercial area.

The Local Anchor

The Villazar rock is the immediate landmark and the feature behind the beach's name. It breaks the otherwise simple line of sand and gives the shore a visual reference point that is easy to recognise from the promenade.

Just inland, the road climbs towards Mojacar Pueblo, whose white houses occupy the hill above the coast. The Parador de Mojacar and the commercial centre are also nearby, placing the beach at one of the main meeting points between the old hill town and the modern seafront. Restaurants in the area range from casual beach meals to longer evening dining, with seafood, rice dishes and Almeria produce widely represented.

The Landscape

Piedra Villazar is approximately 300 metres long and around 25 metres wide, with medium-grained grey sand. The sea opens eastward, while low-rise development, palms and the coastal road form the immediate backdrop.

The setting is urban, but the view inland still reaches the dry hills and the elevated white village. That contrast is central to Mojacar: a modern holiday shoreline below an old settlement built high for defence and visibility. Piedra Villazar expresses that relationship clearly, with the rock on the sand, the road junction behind and Mojacar Pueblo rising above the coastal strip.
