About Playa Areeiros
The mood is spacious in length but intimate in width. Areeiro gives walkers room to follow the shoreline, yet the dry band can remain slim, especially around high tide. Low visitor numbers and calm-looking water create a peaceful atmosphere, with local residents, paddlers and families using the beach rather than resort crowds.
This is a place to watch the tide and the life of the inner ria. Swimming may be pleasant in suitable conditions, but the shallow estuary setting, soft intertidal areas and changing waterline call for practical judgement rather than assumptions based on open-sea beaches.

The Setting
Areeiro is a long, very narrow beach at Paredes in Vilaboa, near the head of the Ria de Vigo. Dark sand follows a sheltered section of shore where the estuary becomes shallow and tidal. It is a quiet local beach whose appearance changes substantially as the water advances and retreats.
Paredes is the immediate anchor, a waterside community on Vilaboa's northern shore. The local canoeing club reflects the sheltered water and the area's connection with paddle sport. San Xoan de Paredes and the nearby shoreline provide a village context behind the beach.
Vilaboa lies between the Ria de Vigo and the Ria de Pontevedra, with the Rande Bridge and San Simon Bay defining much of its maritime geography. Shellfish cultivation, small boats and tidal flats are recurring elements around the municipality.
Areeiro extends for about 230 metres but may be only a few metres wide. Dark sand and intertidal material form a slender edge beneath a semiurban backdrop, with vegetation and local buildings close behind.
The water is usually calmer than at the mouth of the ria, and the opposite shore feels near. At low tide, the beach connects visually with broader flats and exposed textures; at higher water, it contracts into a narrow strip. The view includes wooded hills, small craft and the working patterns of the estuary rather than an open Atlantic horizon. Areeiro's appeal lies in these quiet proportions: a long line of shore, reflective inner-ria water and a landscape governed more by tide than by waves.
