About Playa Rande
The beach feels local and unusual rather than resort-like. Visitors come for the setting as much as for the sand: the bridge dominates the skyline, boats pass through the strait and the inner bay opens behind the crossing.
Rande is suitable for a short stop, a quiet swim when conditions allow or time spent watching the movement of the ria. Its compact size means it can fill quickly, while the surrounding infrastructure remains visible. That working character is part of the place rather than something hidden from view.

The Setting
Rande is a small sheltered beach in Redondela, close to the narrowest point of the Ria de Vigo and the great bridge that carries the motorway across the water. Fine sand occupies a short curve within a landscape shaped by maritime history, industry and steep green hills.
The Rande Bridge is the immediate anchor. Opened in 1981 and later widened, it links Redondela with the Morrazo peninsula and has become one of the defining structures of the Ria de Vigo.
Nearby Meirande interprets the Battle of Rande, fought in 1702 when an Anglo-Dutch fleet attacked a Franco-Spanish convoy. The museum and the remains around the strait give the beach a historical depth that few small bathing places possess.
Rande beach is about 100 metres long, sheltered and formed of fine sand. It lies within the inner ria, where the water narrows before opening into the Ensenada de San Simon.
The bridge towers above the strait, while wooded slopes, harbour structures and scattered buildings shape both shores. At low tide, more of the intertidal edge appears and the inner bay reveals its broad shellfish flats. Higher water makes the beach itself more compact.
The setting can look calm, but currents, wind and vessel traffic deserve attention near the narrow channel. Rande is not a wilderness cove. Its interest comes from the meeting of beach, bridge, naval history and a living estuary, all compressed into one small part of Redondela's coast.
