Playa Arealonga - Redondela

This is an active neighbourhood beach used for walking, swimming, exercise and everyday time beside the water. Its length gives it more breathing room than Redondela's small coves, although the urban surroundings remain present from end to end.

Summer brings families and regular bathers, while the promenade stays useful beyond the main beach season. The beach does not feel like a purpose-built resort; it belongs to Chapela and shares space with homes, transport routes and the working ria.

Arealonga is a long urban beach in Chapela, on the western edge of Redondela and close to Vigo. It follows the Ria de Vigo shoreline beneath a densely settled coast, with a promenade, local streets and broad views towards the Rande strait and the outer estuary.

Chapela is the local anchor. The parish forms the transition between Vigo's eastern districts and Redondela, and its identity is closely tied to industry, fishing and the estuary. Shops and restaurants are woven into the surrounding streets rather than concentrated in a separate tourist zone.

The Portuguese Coastal Camino passes through this side of the ria, bringing walkers along a shoreline where urban life and long-distance travel meet. Rande lies eastwards, while Vigo and the Cies-facing mouth of the estuary open to the west.

Arealonga extends for well over a kilometre along the Chapela waterfront. Its broad tidal strip is backed by a promenade and developed slopes, with no dunes separating the beach from the town.

The view changes along its length. Towards the east, the Rande Bridge marks the narrowing ria; westwards, the water broadens towards Vigo and the Atlantic entrance. Boats, port activity and distant hills create a layered panorama.

Tides make a major difference to the usable sand. Lower water exposes a wide intertidal area, while higher tide pushes the shoreline closer to the promenade. The beach's appeal lies in scale and access rather than seclusion. Arealonga offers Redondela's most urban seaside experience, with enough distance for a proper walk and constant visual contact with the Ria de Vigo.
