Playa o Cocho

The attraction is quietness and scale. O Cocho is the kind of place discovered while walking or driving the local coast, then used for a brief swim, a pause by the water or a few hours in the sun when the tide allows. It has little of the organised feel found at Moana's larger urban beaches.

Because the strand is small, a handful of visitors can change the atmosphere quickly. On an empty morning it feels secluded; later in the day it may feel shared and intimate. Visitors should come prepared and avoid expecting extensive space or a broad promenade.

O Cocho is a tiny fine-sand beach on the Moana shoreline between central Meira and the Domaio side of the municipality. At only a short length, it forms a narrow opening onto the Ria de Vigo rather than a conventional destination beach.

Meira is the closest community anchor, with its fishing port, shellfish tradition and long relationship with the inner ria. Domaio lies farther east, while central Moana and its main services are west along the waterfront.

The wider coastline is shaped by working maritime activity. Small harbours, moorings, boatyards and residential lanes appear between beaches, and O Cocho belongs to that sequence of modest local shores.

O Cocho is approximately 51 metres long, with fine sand and an open classification. Rock defines the sides, while the settled land behind rises close to the water.

The beach faces the broad central section of the Ria de Vigo. Vigo and the opposite hills form the distant horizon, with boats moving across the estuary between ports and anchorages. Although direct Atlantic swell is reduced, wind can create rougher surface conditions than the beach's small size might suggest.

Tide determines whether O Cocho feels usable or very narrow. At low water, extra sand and rock shelves appear and the cove becomes easier to explore. At high water, the available dry area can shrink sharply. The landscape is best appreciated as part of a coastal journey through Moana, where each turn reveals another small strand, harbour or granite point rather than a continuous resort frontage.
