Matagorda

Matagorda sits at the eastern end of Puerto del Carmen’s beach chain, closer to the airport side of the resort and a little calmer in feel than the busier central strip. It is still a managed holiday beach, but with a more open and spacious rhythm.

The Vibe

The vibe is relaxed resort living. Families, older couples and walkers tend to suit Matagorda well because it has the comfort of Puerto del Carmen without quite the same intensity as the central promenade. The beach can be breezy, as this side of Lanzarote often is, but that same open exposure gives it a clean, fresh Atlantic character. It feels lively in a low-pressure way: restaurants, hotels and apartments nearby, but enough space to breathe.

The Local Anchor

Matagorda’s anchor is the resort edge between Puerto del Carmen and the airport coast. It is practical for visitors staying nearby and for anyone who wants an easier beach day without driving across the island. The promenade links the area towards Los Pocillos and Playa Grande, making it part of a wider walking coast rather than an isolated beach stop.

The Landscape

The beach is sandy, open and gently curved, backed by low-rise tourist development and seafront paths. The scenery is not dramatic in the volcanic sense, but it has the clean geometry of Lanzarote’s east coast: pale sand, dark stone details, palms, blue water and a wide sky. Matagorda is useful because it offers the everyday version of Lanzarote comfort — a Blue Flag beach where access, space and simple resort services do most of the work.
