About Sardina

Sardina, near Gáldar on Gran Canaria’s north-west coast, is a sheltered fishing-village beach known for clear water, a local seafront and one of the island’s best diving atmospheres.

The Vibe

The atmosphere is calm, village-like and water-focused. Sardina is not a large resort beach; it is a compact bay where the harbour, houses and beach sit close together. The mood is friendly and local, especially compared with the south-coast tourist centres.

Families use the beach for swimming when the sea is settled, while divers and snorkellers are drawn by the underwater life and sheltered bay. The setting feels practical and authentic: restaurants, fishermen, steps to the water, and a small beach that works well for a slower day.

Sardina suits visitors who want a Blue Flag bathing site with character rather than a polished resort frontage.

The Setting

The Local Anchor

The local anchor is the fishing settlement of Sardina del Norte and the municipality of Gáldar. The beach connects naturally with the north-west’s coastal identity: harbours, volcanic land, seafood and Atlantic light.

Sardina is listed in the official 2026 Blue Flag awards under Gáldar.

The Landscape

The landscape is a sheltered cove with dark sand, stone, harbour walls and clear Atlantic water. The bay is more intimate than dramatic, but the surrounding volcanic coast gives it a strong sense of place.

Its main strength is the water. Sardina’s clarity and bay shape make it especially appealing for snorkelling and diving when conditions are suitable. Live sea conditions still matter on this north-west coast, so check the water before planning a snorkelling day.
