La Garita

La Garita is one of Telde’s best-known urban beaches, a black-sand local favourite on Gran Canaria’s east coast with promenade life, restaurants and family beach use.

The Vibe

The atmosphere is lively, local and family-friendly. La Garita has a stronger town-beach feel than quieter Hoya del Pozo. It is close to homes, cafés and walking routes, so the beach feels part of daily life rather than a separate resort zone.

Families use it for swimming and beach time when conditions are suitable, while walkers follow the coast toward nearby beaches and natural features. It can feel busy, especially at weekends, but the energy is local rather than tourist-heavy.

La Garita is good for users who want a Blue Flag beach outside the southern resort belt.

The local anchor is the town of La Garita and the Telde coastline. Nearby coastal paths and neighbourhood restaurants make the beach practical for residents and visitors exploring the east of the island.

The official 2026 Blue Flag list includes La Garita under Telde, along with Hoya del Pozo, Melenara and Salinetas.

The beach has dark volcanic sand, an urban frontage and open Atlantic water. The coastline is more rugged and wind-exposed than the protected south-west beaches, so conditions can change.

Its appeal is everyday accessibility: a proper local beach with services, promenade access and a community rhythm. La Garita should be tagged family, lively, accessible and Blue Flag. It is not a hidden beach, but it is an important, usable east-coast page for the Gran Canaria hub.
