VALE FIGUEIRAS

In Aljezur, Vale Figueiras forms part of the wild Atlantic shoreline protected within the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. Vale Figueiras is a remote west-coast beach reached by a rural road, with few buildings interrupting the cliff landscape.

The Vibe

At Vale Figueiras, the mood is spacious, surf-minded and close to nature, with fewer large resorts and a strong connection to walking, farming and small coastal settlements. It suits travellers who enjoy hiking and photography, while leaving space for a slow meal in Aljezur or a coastal village. The central access may be sociable, yet a short walk usually changes the atmosphere.

Natural sound dominates: surf, wind in coastal vegetation and occasional boat traffic.

The sea state is waist to chest high with active surf, making it suitable for experienced surfers. The day is expected to be clear with a high temperature of 25°C and a low of 17°C. Currently, the temperature is 19°C with a mostly clear sky and a wind of 10 km/h from the north, gusting 27 km/h.

Vale Figueiras draws much of its identity from Aljezur, an inland market town beneath its hilltop castle, and the fishing and surfing communities scattered along the coast. Natural-park protection helps preserve the valleys, cliffs and dunes of the western coast.
