About Monte Clerigo

Monte Clerigo is a west-coast beach village in the municipality of Aljezur, arranged around a broad Atlantic bay and low river valley. Its white houses, surf-oriented beach and protected Costa Vicentina setting create a small settlement with a strong connection to the landscape.

The Local Anchor

The small village climbs the slope above the beach through whitewashed homes, cafes and holiday accommodation. Aljezur lies inland and provides the nearest larger centre, market and historic castle.

Praia da Amoreira lies nearby beyond the headland, while the Rota Vicentina and local paths connect the coast with broader walking routes. Parking and road space are limited near the village during summer, making early arrival useful.

The Landscape

A broad sandy bay sits between dark rock, low cliffs and a green valley opening towards the sea. The village forms a compact cluster rather than a continuous resort frontage.

Atlantic light, surf and weather dominate the view, with little protection from prevailing wind. Monte Clerigo is defined by scale and setting: a small white village, exposed beach and protected western landscape arranged within one of Aljezur's most approachable coastal bays. Natural pools and exposed rock at the northern side add interest when the tide is suitable, but surfaces can be slippery. The village's small scale means restaurants, parking and beach access all become pressured at similar times, so a flexible arrival plan improves the visit. Evening light is especially attractive across the bay.
