The compact centre is easy to explore on foot, while cycling routes extend through the pinewoods and wetlands around the town. Evening beside the Guadiana is especially pleasant, with ferry movement, river light and views towards Spain creating a distinct border atmosphere. The town also makes a practical base for exploring Castro Marim, Monte Gordo and the final eastern section of the Ecovia do Litoral.
