Playa Censo

Censo has a practical, open atmosphere. It is close enough to the town for regular use by residents, yet the eastern end becomes less enclosed as the urban frontage thins. The beach is usually less concentrated than San Nicolas, giving walkers, families and people using the cycle route more room along the shoreline.

The character is unmistakably that of the Almeria coast. Grey-brown sand and fine gravel replace the pale coves of the Balearics, the sun is strong across an exposed south-facing shore, and the cultivated plain behind Adra remains visible between buildings. This is a useful town beach, not a theatrical landscape, and its appeal comes from space, access and continuity with the promenade.

Playa del Censo is a semi-urban beach on the eastern side of Adra, continuing the town's seafront beyond Playa de San Nicolas. Its dark sand and gravel, broad promenade and cycle lane make it part of everyday local life rather than a separate holiday enclave.

The Sendero Azul San Nicolas links Censo with the neighbouring urban beach along approximately 913 metres of seafront. That short route provides a clear local connection between the port-side town, the palm-lined promenade and the more open eastern edge.

Adra itself is the wider anchor. Its fishing port, agricultural economy and long history as ancient Abdera explain why the waterfront feels connected to a working town rather than built solely for visitors.

Adra's municipal beach guide records Censo at about 515 metres long and 40 metres wide. The surface is dark sand mixed with gravel, and breakwaters define the boundary with San Nicolas and the end of the developed frontage.

The promenade includes a cycle lane and accessible beach infrastructure during the main season. Inland, apartment buildings give way quickly to intensive horticulture and the dry foothills beyond, producing the sharp contrast between sea, cultivated land and arid mountain that characterises this part of western Almeria. The long, level seafront also makes the beach easy to understand on a first visit.
