Playa San Nicolas

San Nicolas is social, convenient and clearly local. It attracts high summer use because residents can reach it on foot and visitors have services close at hand, but the beach is long enough to absorb a steady flow of people. The promenade supports walking, play and informal exercise, while the port at the western end keeps the setting tied to Adra's maritime life.

This is not a secluded beach and should not be presented as one. Buildings, roads and public facilities form part of the view, yet the wide curve of the bay and the open Alboran Sea prevent the shore from feeling cramped. The strongest periods of activity are during warm afternoons and early evenings, when the waterfront functions as an extension of the town.

Playa de San Nicolas is Adra's main urban beach immediately east of the port. It offers a broad dark-sand and gravel shoreline, a complete promenade and direct access to the shops, restaurants and daily activity of the town centre.

Adra's fishing and leisure harbour sits beside the beach and is the immediate point of reference. Masts, harbour walls and working vessels contrast with the long public promenade, showing how recreation and the town's seafaring economy occupy the same waterfront.

The Sendero Azul continues east from San Nicolas to Playa del Censo. It turns two adjoining beaches into a single walkable coastal space while preserving their different levels of urban development.

The municipal guide lists San Nicolas at approximately 650 metres long and 40 metres wide. Its composition is dark sand and gravel, with a gently curving profile between the port area and the breakwater towards Censo.

The beach is the first shore east of Adra's port and has step-free facilities and seasonal support for people with reduced mobility. Behind the promenade, the town rises only slightly before the intensely cultivated coastal plain begins, with dry ridges forming a muted backdrop beyond the white and ochre buildings.
