About Playa del Kalima

The Vibe

The beach feels polished, local and easy to use. Residents, families and visitors staying in Caldes share the sand, while the promenade keeps cafes, homes and town life close. It is compact enough to feel sociable without having the scale of the larger resort beaches farther north.

Kalima suits a relaxed swim, a morning walk or a few hours beside the sea. The breakwaters provide visual shelter, but the beach still faces the open Mediterranean and can develop shore break when wind or swell arrives. Flags and lifeguard guidance remain important, especially for children and less confident swimmers.

The Setting

About

Kalima is the northern of Caldes d'Estrac's two main beaches, set in an urban and residential section of the Maresme coast. It lies between a small breakwater near the boundary with Arenys de Mar and the breakwater beside the former seafront hotel area that separates it from Tres Micos.

The Local Anchor

Caldes d'Estrac, also known as Caldetes, is defined by thermal water as much as by the sea. Its mineral spring rises hot from deep underground, and the traditional spa continues a history that shaped the town's growth as a fashionable coastal retreat.

The Fundacio Palau provides another strong cultural anchor, with art and literature connected to the collection of Josep Palau i Fabre. Narrow streets climb from the waterfront towards the older centre, while the railway links Caldes directly with Barcelona and other Maresme towns.

The Landscape

Kalima occupies a straight urban frontage of coarse golden sand, bounded by low sea defences. The promenade and residential buildings form the backdrop, but the beach retains a broad Mediterranean horizon and strong morning light.

At lower water, the strand gains useful width; higher water brings waves closer to the upper sand and makes the breakwaters more prominent. The northern edge looks towards Arenys, while the southern side leads naturally into Tres Micos.

This is not an isolated cove. Its character comes from the close relationship between beach, promenade and spa town. Visitors can move from warm mineral water and cultural sights to the open sea within a few streets, giving Kalima a distinctly Caldes identity.
