About Playa de Les Roques Blanques

The Vibe

The atmosphere is spacious and informal. Visitors come for swimming in suitable conditions, sunbathing and long views along the Maresme coast rather than for a dense concentration of entertainment. Its distance from Sant Pol's centre generally keeps the mood calmer than at Les Barques.

The exposed shoreline can develop waves when wind reaches the coast. Rock beneath or beside the water also changes the safest entry points, so bathers should follow flags and observe conditions before swimming. On settled days, the long sandy section gives families and couples room to spread out.

The Setting

About

Roques Blanques is the westernmost beach in Sant Pol de Mar, close to the boundary with Calella. It is a long, relatively quiet strand of golden sand shaped by rocky outcrops and backed closely by the railway and coastal road. The beach feels less urban than its transport-side setting might suggest.

The Local Anchor

Sant Pol de Mar remains the natural anchor even though the village centre is some distance east. The town's white houses, steep lanes and church create one of the clearest old-village profiles on the Maresme coast.

Calella lies close in the opposite direction, giving Roques Blanques a transitional position between two very different destinations: compact, historic Sant Pol and the larger resort town of Calella. Coastal rail travel makes both easy to combine with a beach visit.

The Landscape

The beach extends for more than 400 metres and is defined by the pale rock formations that help explain its name. Sand, stone and open water create a more textured landscape than the straight urban beaches farther south.

The railway line and N-II occupy the narrow strip behind the beach. Access therefore feels engineered, but once on the sand the Mediterranean horizon and rocky margins dominate the view. Storms can alter the width and profile of the shore, exposing more stone during rougher periods.

Looking east, the coast curves towards La Murtra and central Sant Pol. Westward, the shoreline leads towards Calella. Roques Blanques is best for visitors comfortable with a simple beach setting where transport infrastructure is visible but services and urban activity remain limited.
