Playa de Les Barques

The beach has a friendly, sociable character. Families, regular swimmers, train passengers and visitors exploring the village share the sand, especially during summer. Its central position creates more activity than at La Murtra or Roques Blanques, but the setting still feels rooted in a small coastal town rather than a large resort.

The breakwater offers some protection from easterly conditions, although waves and currents can still vary. Swimmers should follow flags and keep away from harbour or boat areas. The sandy curve is well suited to a shorter visit combined with lunch or a walk through Sant Pol.

Platja de les Barques is the central beach of Sant Pol de Mar, directly in front of the railway station and the old village. Golden sand, a protective breakwater and immediate access to cafes, streets and transport make it the most convenient and recognisable beach in the municipality.

The name Les Barques reflects the fishing boats traditionally drawn onto this part of the shore. That history remains central to Sant Pol's identity, even though modern beach use now dominates the scene.

Behind the station, narrow streets climb through white houses towards the church of Sant Jaume. The hermitage of Sant Pau stands above the eastern side of town and provides a broad view of the coastline. Together, station, church and hillside create a distinctive village backdrop that is visible from the sand.

Les Barques forms a compact urban bay with coarse golden sand. The breakwater defines one end, while railway structures and the station sit immediately behind the upper beach. This closeness can seem unusual, but it is typical of the historic Maresme railway corridor.

The water view remains open despite the built setting. Looking along the coast reveals a sequence of small coves and rocky breaks rather than one continuous strand. El Morer lies east, while Can Villar and the western beaches extend in the opposite direction.

The attraction is the complete sense of place: trains arriving beside the beach, old village streets rising behind and fishing history embedded in the beach's name. Few Maresme beaches connect transport, heritage and sea quite so directly.
